Graduate Building Surveyor – Railway Structures (Glasgow)

About the role

We are looking for a Graduate Building Surveyor to join a growing railway structures examination team in Scotland. You will support experienced examiners on the inspection of stations, operational buildings, platforms, bridges and other civil engineering assets, gaining hands‑on experience and formal rail competencies.

Key responsibilities

• Assist with visual and detailed examinations of railway buildings and structures.
• Inspect stations, roofs, canopies, platforms, footbridges, bridges and retaining walls.
• Identify, measure, photograph and accurately record defects.
• Review previous reports and asset information before site visits.
• Prepare clear, technically accurate examination reports.
• Support assessment of asset condition, deterioration and maintenance requirements.
• Travel to railway sites across Scotland, including occasional night and weekend shifts.

Required profile

• A degree in Building Surveying, Civil Engineering, Structural Engineering or a closely related discipline.
• Genuine interest in buildings, structures, defects and asset condition.
• Strong written communication and report‑writing ability.
• Methodical approach with good attention to detail.
• Willingness to work outdoors and in rail environments.
• Full UK driving licence and ability to travel across Scotland.
