About the role
We are seeking a Graduate Teaching Assistant to support children with Education Health Care Plans (EHCPs) in a SEN school in Kingston Upon Thames. This role provides a valuable stepping‑stone for graduates aiming to build a career in special education, offering hands‑on experience and progression opportunities.
Key responsibilities
- Assist teachers in delivering lessons to pupils with special educational needs.
- Explain tasks and break down problems to ensure understanding.
- Provide one‑to‑one and small‑group support, adapting communication strategies as needed.
- Help maintain a safe and inclusive classroom environment.
- Collaborate with staff on behaviour‑management and emergency‑aid procedures.
Required profile
- A genuine desire to work with children who have special educational needs.
- Caring, compassionate and resilient nature.
- Pro‑active, ‘can‑do’ attitude and ability to work independently.
- Willingness to undergo a DBS check (support provided).
Required skills
- Knowledge of basic behaviour‑management techniques.
- Understanding of communication strategies for SEN pupils.
What we offer
- Progression to an Unqualified Teacher role.
- Funding for teaching‑training courses and psychology/behaviour‑management training.
- Permanent or part‑time contracts with secured five‑day work weeks.
- Day rate of £100‑£110.
