Graduate Town Planner – 1 Year Experience

About the role

Penguin Recruitment is supporting a growing planning consultancy in Colchester that is looking for a Graduate Town Planner. This full‑time position offers the chance to develop your planning career across residential, commercial and mixed‑use projects while working alongside experienced professionals.

Key responsibilities

• Support the preparation and submission of planning applications and appeals.
• Assist with planning appraisals and development feasibility assessments.
• Prepare planning statements and supporting documentation.
• Conduct planning policy research and analysis.
• Liaise with local planning authorities, consultees and other stakeholders.
• Attend client meetings, site visits and public consultations.
• Provide project coordination and administrative support to senior colleagues.

Required profile

• RTPI‑accredited degree or Master’s in Town Planning or a related discipline.
• Minimum of one year’s planning experience within a consultancy, developer or local authority.
• Strong understanding of the UK planning system and planning policy.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Analytical, organisational and problem‑solving abilities.
• Proactive, enthusiastic and committed to progressing towards MRTPI Chartership.
