Ground Segment Systems Engineer

About the role

Astroscale is looking for an experienced Ground Segment Systems Engineer to join our Harwell facility. You will be responsible for the full lifecycle of ground segment development, from concept through to operation and maintenance, ensuring our missions run safely and efficiently.

Key responsibilities

• Lead the design and development of ground systems such as the Mission Control System, Mission Planning System, and Ground Stations Interface System.
• Derive and document requirements for the overall ground segment and individual components.
• Act as Product Owner or Technical Officer with external suppliers, supporting the development team throughout the project.
• Collaborate with internal Astroscale teams, as well as Mission and Systems teams at other locations.
• Apply Agile (SCRUM) methodology to manage schedules and deliverables.
• Produce and maintain high‑quality documentation, including verification and validation plans, test procedures, and reports.
• Conduct verification and validation activities, including system tests and simulation campaigns.
• Support the Mission Operations team with training, troubleshooting, and ongoing maintenance of ground systems.

Required profile

• University degree in Computer Science, Telecommunications, or a related engineering discipline.
• At least 3 years of industry experience in ground systems engineering.
• Strong understanding of ground segment components and their interactions.
• Excellent communication skills for interfacing with multicultural teams.
• Good reporting and documentation abilities.
