Grounds Maintenance Operative – Full‑time

About the role

The Portsmouth Grammar School is seeking a dedicated Grounds Maintenance Operative to join its small professional team. Reporting to the Head Groundskeeper, you will help maintain sports pitches, landscaped areas and other outdoor facilities to a high standard, supporting both school activities and external lettings.

Key responsibilities

• Maintain and continually improve sports pitches, artificial surfaces, gardens, pathways and access roads.
• Inspect grounds and facilities daily, report defects and carry out corrective actions.
• Keep the site clean and presentable, including litter collection and waste management.
• Maintain ground machinery, vehicles, hand tools and power tools in safe, operational condition.
• Service and record‑keep for all equipment, ensuring buildings, sheds and storage areas are tidy and secure.
• Assist with site security, visitor management and occasional evening or weekend events.

Required profile

• Willingness to work 37.5 hours per week, Tuesday‑Saturday, with flexibility for sporting events, evening lettings and occasional weekend duties.
• Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions.
• Commitment to health and safety standards and accurate record‑keeping.
