Grounds Maintenance Worker – Heywood (Temporary)

About the role
The council is seeking a Grounds Maintenance Worker to support the upkeep of public green spaces in Heywood. This full‑time, temporary position (3‑4 months) offers hands‑on experience in horticulture and outdoor maintenance.
Key responsibilities
- Operate pedestrian, hand‑held and ride‑on machines to cut grass across various sites.
- Perform strimming, hedge trimming, shrub maintenance and edging.
- Remove weeds, collect litter and empty bins as required.
- Carry out general street cleansing and occasional overtime to meet service demands.
- Work flexibly across different locations within the borough.
Required profile
- Physically fit and able to carry out labour‑intensive tasks.
- Capable of working independently or as part of a team.
- Willingness to travel within the borough and work overtime when needed.
- Desirable: Horticulture qualification (NVQ, City & Guilds) and Pesticides Application Certificate (PA1 & PA6).
Required skills
- Operation of pedestrian, hand‑held and ride‑on grass‑cutting machines.
- Strimming and hedge‑trimming techniques.
- Pesticides application (PA1, PA6) certification.
