Grounds Person – Highways Grass Team (4‑month Fixed‑term)

About the role

The local authority in Berkshire is seeking a Grounds Person to join its Highways Grass Team on a four‑month fixed‑term contract. Working full‑time (37 hours per week), you will maintain highway verges, public open spaces and landscaped areas across the borough.

Key responsibilities

• Cut grass and manage vegetation on highways and public spaces.
• Operate brush cutters, ride‑on or pedestrian mowers and hedge cutters safely.
• Trim hedges and perform general grounds maintenance duties.
• Assist with highway landscaping and environmental maintenance tasks.
• Carry out daily vehicle and equipment checks.
• Follow health and safety procedures at all times.
• Work outdoors in varying weather conditions.

Required profile

• Full UK or European driving licence, including Category C1+E.
• Previous experience using brush cutters, ride‑on or pedestrian mowers and hedge cutters.
• Good understanding of health and safety practices.
• Ability to undertake physically demanding outdoor work.
• Reliable, punctual and able to work as part of a team.

What we offer
