Groundsman & Maintenance Officer – Independent Preparatory School

About the role

The school is seeking a dedicated Groundsman & Maintenance Officer to keep its campus safe, welcoming and of a high standard. Working 32 hours per week on a flexible schedule, you will be responsible for both outdoor grounds care and building upkeep, supporting the daily operation of a prestigious independent preparatory school.

Key responsibilities

• Maintain lawns, gardens, landscaped areas and outdoor learning spaces – grass cutting, lawn care, hedge trimming, pruning, planting and seasonal work.
• Ensure sports fields and recreational areas are safe, clean and fit for use.
• Carry out leaf clearance, litter collection and overall site presentation.
• Monitor outdoor areas for health and safety risks and act promptly.
• Perform routine repairs and maintenance inside school buildings – basic plumbing, decorating, carpentry, painting and general handyman tasks.
• Inspect classrooms, offices and communal areas regularly.
• Assist with furniture assembly, room re‑configurations and event set‑up.
• Report larger maintenance issues and coordinate external contractors when required.

• Ability to work a flexible 32‑hour week, including occasional weekends for events or projects.
