Group Accountant

About the role

The London Borough of Redbridge is looking for an experienced Group Accountant to lead financial management for the High Needs Block within the Education & Inclusion Directorate. This senior, full‑time position provides strategic financial advice, business partnering and oversight of budgeting, forecasting and statutory compliance for SEND services.

Key responsibilities

• Lead financial management and strategic advice across Education, Inclusion and SEND services.
• Act as the principal finance advisor for High Needs Block funding and expenditure.
• Prepare and deliver monthly and quarterly budget monitoring, forecasting and performance reports.
• Support service transformation programmes through financial modelling, business case development and options appraisal.
• Identify savings opportunities, manage financial risks and develop recovery plans.
• Contribute to statutory accounts, financial returns and external audit requirements.
• Manage and develop the SEND Finance Team, ensuring high‑quality service delivery.
• Provide financial advice to senior leadership for decision‑making and governance.
• Represent Redbridge at regional and national forums, promoting council interests.

Required profile

• Qualified finance professional (e.g., ACCA, CIMA, ACA) with extensive experience in public sector accounting.
• Proven experience in strategic financial leadership, budgeting and forecasting.
• Strong understanding of SEND funding and statutory compliance.
• Experience managing and developing finance teams.
• Excellent communication and influencing skills with senior stakeholders.
