Group Accountant – Public Sector (Portsmouth)

About the role

As a Group Accountant based in Portsmouth, you will support a public‑sector organisation by managing its financial operations and ensuring accurate reporting. Your work will help maintain financial health, compliance and informed decision‑making.

Key responsibilities

• Prepare and deliver accurate financial reports and statutory statements.
• Oversee budgeting and forecasting processes to aid effective planning.
• Ensure compliance with financial regulations and internal policies.
• Provide financial insights to senior management for strategic decisions.
• Coordinate the preparation of accounts for audit purposes.
• Monitor and analyse financial performance, identifying improvement opportunities.
• Support implementation and optimisation of financial systems and processes.
• Collaborate with various departments to maintain financial consistency and accuracy.

Required profile

• Recognised accounting qualification (e.g., ACCA, CIMA, ACA).
• Strong knowledge of public‑sector financial reporting and compliance.
• Experience in budgeting, forecasting and financial analysis.
• Excellent attention to detail and organisational abilities.
• Proficiency with financial systems and related software.
• Effective communication and collaboration skills.
