About the role
The National Armaments Director Group (NAD Group) is seeking a senior financial leader to steer a £19bn annual budget across a complex portfolio of defence programmes. Reporting to the Executive Committee, the CFO will influence strategy, ensure fiscal stewardship, and drive innovative commercial models.
Key responsibilities
- Oversee financial planning, reporting and control for an organisation of ~30,000 staff.
- Manage £19bn of annual expenditure across high‑risk, high‑value defence programmes.
- Provide financial confidence to Ministers, HM Treasury and Parliament.
- Develop and implement new commercial models and attract private capital.
- Lead a transformation of financial, operational and programme‑management capability.
- Build and nurture a high‑performing finance function focused on value for money.
Required profile
- Proven strategic financial leadership in large, complex organisations.
- Strong commercial instincts and a track record of turning strategy into execution.
- Ability to operate at senior government and industry levels.
- Resilience, intellectual curiosity and calmness under pressure.
- Motivation by public‑service purpose and defence mission.
