Group Head of Maintenance and Minor Works

About the role

You will lead the college’s maintenance, engineering and minor works functions across all campuses, ensuring the estate is safe, compliant and well maintained. The role blends operational leadership with technical expertise, statutory compliance oversight and a focus on continuous improvement.

Key responsibilities

• Lead, motivate and develop the maintenance team and project officers, setting priorities and managing resources.
• Oversee reactive and planned preventative maintenance, ensuring statutory compliance and best practice.
• Manage CAFM workflows, maintaining accurate records and efficient scheduling.
• Deliver minor works and small construction projects to specification, budget and programme, including handover and commissioning.
• Maintain the asset register and planned maintenance programme, supporting lifecycle planning.
• Manage contractors and suppliers, monitoring KPIs, SLAs and contributing to tendering processes.
• Control maintenance and minor works budgets, providing performance reports and KPIs.
• Support wider college duties such as duty manager rota, enrolment activities and exam invigilation.

Required profile

• Extensive experience in maintenance, engineering or building services with strong leadership abilities.
• Proven track record of managing teams, contractors and small‑scale projects.
• Ability to interpret technical information and communicate it clearly to non‑technical audiences.
• Commitment to health, safety, inclusive and anti‑racist behaviours, safeguarding and equality.
• Relevant professional qualifications (CIBSE, CIOB, RICS) and NEBOSH certification; project management qualifications desirable.
