Head Gardener – Private Estate, Virginia Water

About the role

This is a live‑out, full‑time position managing a 2.5‑3 acre private family estate in Virginia Water. The Head Gardener will maintain existing formal lawns, herbaceous borders, specimen trees and leisure areas while developing seasonal planting schemes.

Key responsibilities

• Overall management and hands‑on maintenance of all estate gardens.
• Care of formal lawns, mixed herbaceous planting, specimen trees and borders.
• Maintenance of paved areas, pathways, tennis‑court surrounds and pool perimeter.
• Planning and implementing seasonal planting, pruning and horticultural tasks.
• Monitoring plant health and treating any issues.
• Servicing, cleaning and maintaining garden machinery, tools and equipment.
• Liaising with external garden‑maintenance contractors and ensuring standards are met.
• Keeping the gardens presented to the highest standard at all times.

Required profile

• Previous experience as a Head Gardener on a comparable private estate.
• Strong horticultural knowledge and plant identification ability.
• Highly organised, self‑motivated and detail‑oriented.
• Full UK driving licence with own transport.
• Excellent, checkable references.
