Head of Accounting – Finance Manager (Not‑for‑Profit)

About the role

The Trust is a respected not‑for‑profit organisation delivering health, wellbeing, cultural and social services across the North West. As Head of Accounting you will take full ownership of the finance function, ensuring robust financial management, governance and compliance.

Key responsibilities

• Lead the preparation of statutory accounts in line with SORP and FRS standards.
• Manage budgeting, forecasting and financial reporting for senior decision‑making.
• Oversee VAT compliance, including partial exemption arrangements.
• Develop and maintain strong financial controls and continuously improve systems and processes.
• Provide strategic financial analysis to support business planning and funding optimisation.
• Lead, develop and motivate the finance team to deliver a high‑performing service.

Required profile

• Qualified ACA, ACCA or CIMA accountant with significant post‑qualification leadership experience.
• Proven expertise in budgeting, forecasting, financial reporting and business planning.
• Hands‑on experience with VAT partial exemption and preparing accounts under SORP/FRS.
• Experience in the charity or not‑for‑profit sector is advantageous.
• Strong people‑management, communication and stakeholder‑engagement skills.
