Head of Compliance

About the role

The Head of Compliance will lead the health, safety and compliance function for a large housing association operating over 7,000 homes across Cheshire and the wider North West. You will ensure that all staff and contractors work safely, that regulatory obligations are met, and that the organisation fosters a proactive safety culture.

Key responsibilities

• Lead, motivate and develop the compliance team through performance management and clear vision.
• Ensure full compliance with health and safety legislation and internal policies.
• Manage the fleet of vehicles and telematics systems for operatives.
• Oversee facilities management for key office buildings.
• Promote a proactive safety culture using behavioural techniques, toolbox talks, safety committees and positive reinforcement.
• Review, develop and implement the Occupational Health and Safety Management System.
• Collaborate with other managers to control and monitor contractor health and safety compliance.
• Implement systems to record, monitor and report health and safety performance, assigning actions and tracking progress.
• Design and deliver training programmes for board members, directors, managers and employees.
• Liaise with HSE, local authorities, fire and rescue services, and police on safety matters.
• Provide regular health and safety reports and strategic advice to senior leadership and the board.
• Manage the health and safety budget.

Required profile

• Proven experience in a senior health, safety or compliance role within the property or construction sector.
• Chartered Member of IOSH (CIOH) and NEBOSH qualification (or equivalent).
• Strong knowledge of UK health and safety legislation and best practice.
• Demonstrated ability to lead teams, influence culture and drive continuous improvement.
