Head of Curriculum for Visual Arts

About the role
The college, rated Outstanding by Ofsted in 2024, seeks an experienced Head of Curriculum for Visual Arts to lead its 16‑19 visual arts provision. This senior position combines strategic leadership with hands‑on teaching, ensuring a first‑class learning experience across Art & Design, Film, Fashion, Graphic Design and Photography.
Key responsibilities
- Lead and manage the entire Visual Arts curriculum area.
- Drive high‑quality teaching, learning and assessment practices.
- Oversee curriculum development, quality improvement and self‑assessment planning.
- Monitor learner progress, attendance, retention and achievement.
- Support, develop and manage curriculum staff.
- Lead student support, pastoral care and learner success initiatives.
- Build relationships with employers, universities and industry partners.
- Contribute to the strategic development of the wider organisation.
- Deliver approximately 10 teaching hours per week, primarily in Art & Design.
Required profile
- A degree or equivalent qualification.
- Proven experience managing curriculum teams and leading development initiatives.
- Extensive teaching experience with 16‑19 learners, especially in visual arts subjects.
- Demonstrated ability to improve learner outcomes through data‑driven decision‑making.
- Strong leadership, planning, organisational and communication skills.
- Experience handling student behaviour and pastoral processes.
