Head of Data

About the role

Our client, a charitable organisation, is looking for a hands‑on Head of Data to own and develop its data function. This hybrid role blends technical delivery with leadership, ensuring data governance, quality, and insight generation are embedded across the organisation.

Key responsibilities

• Design, implement and maintain the data governance model, including catalogues, lineage, role‑based access and quality metrics.
• Oversee the cloud‑hosted Snowflake data warehouse on Azure, driving continuous improvement and reliability.
• Manage data ingestion pipelines and transformation workflows using Medallion and Kimball principles.
• Support reporting and insight needs through Power BI dashboards and visualisations.
• Lead the external data‑warehouse supplier, coordinating data engineers and architects.
• Champion data literacy and cultural change via training and internal champions.
• Ensure GDPR compliance and robust data security throughout the data lifecycle.

Required profile

• Proven hands‑on experience with data warehousing, ETL/ELT processes, data modelling and Medallion architecture.
• Track record of managing vendors delivering hosted or managed data‑warehouse solutions.
• Ability to design and implement governance frameworks, data catalogues and security models.
• Strong communication skills, comfortable with both technical teams and senior non‑technical stakeholders.
• Demonstrated success embedding data standards and ways of working across an organisation.

What we offer

• Salary between £70,000 and £80,000 per year, dependent on experience.
