Head of Department – Structural Technologies

About the role

We are seeking an experienced curriculum leader to head the Structural Technologies department for a leading Further Education provider in South East England. Reporting to the Curriculum Director, you will shape curriculum delivery, drive continuous improvement and champion student achievement across the department.

Key responsibilities

• Lead, manage and develop the curriculum team to deliver outstanding learner outcomes.
• Ensure high standards of teaching, learning and assessment throughout the department.
• Monitor retention, achievement and progression, implementing targeted interventions where required.
• Lead quality‑improvement activities, self‑assessment and action planning.
• Develop innovative curriculum provision aligned to industry and local skills priorities.
• Support and develop staff through performance management, coaching and mentoring.
• Manage departmental resources and contribute to strategic planning and operational targets.

Required profile

• A degree or equivalent qualification.
• A recognised teaching qualification.
• Proven experience leading courses, curriculum areas or academic teams within Further Education or a similar setting.
• Track record of improving student achievement, retention and quality outcomes.
• Experience managing and developing staff.
• Strong communication, organisational and stakeholder‑engagement skills.
• Passion for delivering an exceptional learning experience and driving continuous improvement.
