Head of Design

About the role

Orbital is an AI platform that streamlines real‑estate legal work. As Head of Design you will report directly to the CTO, lead a small design team and shape the product experience for professional lawyers across the UK and US.

Key responsibilities

• Partner with product, engineering and commercial leaders to bring a strategic design perspective to business decisions.
• Identify friction points in the user experience and set design priorities based on product strategy, growth goals and AI‑first operating model.
• Define AI‑native design standards that build trust, explainability and controllable agentic behaviour for expert users.
• Build and scale the design function, mentoring designers and establishing clear ownership, processes and design systems.
• Translate product context into a coherent design strategy and challenge existing assumptions when evidence demands it.

Required profile

• Significant experience leading product design at a senior level in a scaling B2B tech company.
• Proven track record of sitting at the product leadership table and influencing business decisions.
• Experience scaling a design function through high‑growth phases with strong judgment on process and structure.
• Hands‑on experience designing AI‑native products, addressing explainability, trust and confidence signals.
• Ability to design for expert professional users without condescension, and strong commercial instincts linking design to adoption and revenue.
