Head of Dispute Resolution

About the role

We are seeking a commercially astute and strategically minded solicitor to lead our Dispute Resolution Department. The role combines leadership, technical excellence, client relationship development, and business growth responsibilities within a dynamic legal practice.

Key responsibilities

• Lead and develop the Dispute Resolution team, overseeing workflow, performance reviews and fostering a culture of quality and client focus.
• Manage a broad portfolio of contentious and non‑contentious matters, including commercial, contract, shareholder, construction, probate and property disputes.
• Maintain and grow client relationships, delivering pragmatic advice and high‑level service.
• Ensure compliance with the SRA Code of Conduct, AML regulations and firm policies, conducting regular file reviews and risk assessments.
• Contribute to firm‑wide strategic planning, business development and marketing activities, including networking, thought leadership and professional association involvement.
• Monitor departmental budgets, work‑in‑progress and billing targets, supporting pricing strategies and profitability initiatives.

Required profile

• Qualified solicitor in England & Wales with at least 10 years post‑qualification experience.
• Proven track record in both contentious and non‑contentious commercial work.
• Previous leadership or team‑management experience within a law firm.

Required skills

• Strong knowledge of commercial litigation and advisory practice.
• Understanding of SRA regulatory framework, AML requirements and professional accreditation processes (e.g., Lexcel, CQS).
• Excellent client relationship and business development capabilities.
