Head of Employment Solicitor – Birmingham

About the role

The Legists, a leading national law firm, is seeking an experienced Employment Solicitor to lead its Birmingham employment practice. This senior position offers the chance to shape strategy, manage a high‑performing team, and work with a diverse portfolio of national and international clients.

Key responsibilities

• Lead and develop a well‑established team handling both contentious and non‑contentious employment matters.
• Provide commercial advice on HR issues, disciplinary and grievance procedures, redundancy, discrimination, whistleblowing, TUPE, restrictive covenants, and Employment Tribunal litigation.
• Collaborate with corporate, commercial and regulatory colleagues on employment aspects of mergers, acquisitions and restructures.
• Manage a busy caseload while driving business development and client relationship growth.
• Contribute to the firm’s national employment strategy and mentor junior lawyers.

Required profile

• Qualified solicitor with extensive experience advising employer clients on complex employment law matters.
• Proven track record at partner, legal director or senior associate level.
• Strong commercial awareness and ability to build long‑term client relationships.
• Experience supervising and developing lawyers, with a focus on practice growth.

Required skills

• Deep knowledge of UK employment law, including disciplinary, grievance, redundancy, discrimination, whistleblowing, TUPE and restrictive covenants.
• Experience with Employment Tribunal procedures and litigation.
