Head of Engineering Operating System

About the role

Rolls‑Royce SMR is seeking a senior leader to own and evolve the Engineering Operating System (EOS) that underpins the delivery of its Small Modular Reactor programme. Working in a hybrid setting across Warrington, Derby or Manchester, you will ensure the EOS operates as a coherent, high‑performing enterprise system that meets regulatory expectations.

Key responsibilities

• Lead the continuous improvement of the EOS, integrating governance, digital platforms and engineering processes.
• Provide operational oversight of engineering capability, capacity and resilience to enable predictable delivery.
• Translate governance frameworks into practical, system‑enabled controls.
• Drive adoption of standard tools and digital platforms to reduce fragmentation.
• Partner with DigIT and platform owners to optimise system performance and resolve delivery issues.
• Identify systemic risks early and deliver data‑led insight into EOS performance for leadership decision‑making.

Required profile

• Extensive senior leadership experience in enterprise‑scale engineering environments, preferably within regulated or safety‑critical sectors.
• Proven track record of operating and improving engineering systems, governance and assurance processes in live delivery programmes.
• Deep understanding of risk, controls and assurance in complex, regulated projects.
