Head of Facilities

About the role

The Head of Facilities will lead the facilities management function for a large, complex estate in Plymouth. Reporting to senior leadership, you will be responsible for estates management, maintenance operations, contractor oversight and regulatory compliance. This senior role combines strategic planning with hands‑on delivery of capital projects.

Key responsibilities

• Develop and implement a facilities strategy aligned with business objectives.
• Maintain compliance with health, safety, environmental regulations and ISO standards.
• Oversee the upkeep of buildings, infrastructure and site facilities.
• Coordinate and control approved contractors and service providers.
• Lead major capital development programmes and projects.
• Prepare and manage operating budgets and CAPEX plans.
• Direct emergency facilities response and business continuity actions.
• Build strong relationships with senior management and key departments.
• Track KPIs, contractor SLAs and statutory maintenance compliance.
• Produce reports and maintain accurate compliance records.

Required profile

• Proven experience in facilities, estates or property maintenance management.
• Strong knowledge of health and safety, environmental and building regulations.
• Experience managing large, complex estates and maintenance operations.
• Leadership and team‑management experience within a facilities or operations environment.
• Demonstrated ability to manage budgets, resources and contracts.
