Head of Facilities Management

About the role

The Head of Facilities Management will lead the delivery of statutory building compliance and the overall facilities strategy for a diverse portfolio of corporate, school and community assets. Reporting to senior leadership, this role combines strategic oversight with hands‑on management of both hard and soft FM services.

Key responsibilities

• Act as the lead officer for statutory building compliance, ensuring health & safety, fire and water hygiene standards are met across all assets.
• Direct the strategic and operational delivery of FM services, managing a large multidisciplinary team covering technical (Hard FM) and frontline (Soft FM) functions.
• Oversee a hybrid delivery model that balances high‑value external contracts with self‑delivered services such as cleaning, security and catering.
• Serve as the primary technical interface for property‑related services aligned with the AD Property & Asset Strategy.
• Support the Assistant Director in developing long‑term capital maintenance and life‑cycle replacement plans to enhance estate resilience.

Required profile

• Proven experience within a Local Authority environment or similar public sector setting.
• Demonstrated ability to lead large, multi‑disciplinary FM teams.
• Strong knowledge of statutory compliance requirements for buildings.
• Experience managing both external contracts and in‑house service delivery.
