Head of Finance (24-month Fixed-Term)

About the role

We are seeking an experienced Head of Finance to lead the finance function of a heritage charitable organisation during a 24‑month fixed‑term period. Reporting to the Finance Director and working closely with the Executive Team, you will oversee day‑to‑day financial operations while supporting a strategic transformation programme.

Key responsibilities

• Lead and develop a small finance team to ensure an efficient finance function.
• Prepare accurate monthly management accounts, budgets and forecasts.
• Manage cash flow, statutory reporting, VAT, payroll and the annual audit.
• Maintain strong financial controls and compliance.
• Partner with budget holders and senior leaders to provide commercial insight.
• Support organisational transformation, including new accounting processes, Gift Aid implementation and creation of a trading subsidiary.
• Drive continuous improvement of finance systems, processes and reporting.

Required profile

• ACA, ACCA or CIMA qualified, or equivalent senior finance experience.
• Proven experience leading a finance function and managing a team.
• Strong technical accounting, reporting, budgeting and forecasting abilities.
• Excellent communication skills with the ability to influence senior stakeholders.
• Experience in charities, not‑for‑profit or finance transformation projects is advantageous.
