Head of Finance / Financial Controller

About the role

A growing, ambitious business is seeking a commercially‑minded Head of Finance to own its financial strategy, operations and performance. Reporting directly to the Managing Director, this senior leader will combine strategic insight with hands‑on management of day‑to‑day finance activities.

Key responsibilities

• Lead the finance function, overseeing both strategic and operational finance activities.
• Prepare and review monthly management accounts, budgets and forecasts.
• Manage month‑end and year‑end closing processes.
• Provide financial analysis and commercial insight to support senior decision‑making.
• Partner with the senior leadership team to drive business performance and growth initiatives.
• Oversee cash flow, working capital, profitability and cost‑control measures.
• Develop and maintain robust financial controls, governance and compliance processes.
• Manage statutory reporting, audits and tax compliance.
• Enhance financial systems, reporting capabilities and process efficiencies.
• Build scalable financial infrastructure to support future growth.

Required profile

• Qualified finance professional (ACA, ACCA, CIMA or equivalent).
• Proven experience in a senior finance leadership role such as Head of Finance or Finance Director within an SME or growth‑oriented environment.
• Strong end‑to‑end ownership of finance operations.
• Experience partnering with leadership teams on strategic business decisions.
• Commercially focused with excellent analytical and problem‑solving abilities.
• Ability to balance strategic thinking with hands‑on execution.
• Excellent communication skills to translate financial data into actionable business insights.
