Head of Finance

About the role

Newham Hospital is seeking an experienced finance leader to act as the Finance Director for the site. Reporting to the Chief Executive and accountable to the Trust Deputy CFO – Operational Finance, the Head of Finance will shape financial strategy and ensure robust financial performance across the hospital.

Key responsibilities

• Deliver all aspects of financial management, including budgeting, forecasting, and monthly performance reporting to the Trust Board.
• Lead a team of accountants, fostering a positive culture while providing day‑to‑day financial support.
• Implement and maintain financial controls, ensuring operational teams make informed financial decisions.
• Collaborate with the Executive team, clinical, academic and operational colleagues to align hospital strategy with group financial and operational plans.
• Support the Deputy CFO with strategic direction, business planning and system‑wide financial initiatives.

Required profile

• Qualified accountant with extensive financial management experience, preferably within the NHS.
• Proven leadership ability to inspire and engage senior and specialist colleagues.
• Strong communication and influencing skills with internal and external stakeholders, including clinicians, board members and regulators.
• Commercial strategic thinking and a commitment to continuous improvement in a complex healthcare environment.
