Head of Finance

About the role

Harper May Ltd is seeking a Head of Finance to lead the finance function of its fast‑growing consumer non‑durables business. Reporting to the Managing Director, you will sit at the commercial table, shaping investment decisions, pricing strategy and supporting the company’s expansion across the UK and EU.

Key responsibilities

• Prepare and own monthly management accounts, cash flow forecasts, annual budgeting and board packs with a clear commercial narrative.
• Manage cash flow, inventory valuation and working capital in a capital‑intensive manufacturing and distribution operation.
• Build and embed robust financial controls, compliance procedures and ensure audit readiness.
• Partner with operations and commercial teams to identify cost optimisation and margin‑improvement opportunities.
• Lead a small but growing finance team, establishing systems and processes for future scale.
• Support evaluation of capital expenditure, acquisition and strategic partnership decisions.

Required profile

• ACA, ACCA or CIMA qualified.
• 8+ years in senior finance roles within manufacturing, logistics or product‑led businesses.
• Proven ability to build finance functions and lead small teams through periods of growth.
• Commercial mindset with a genuine interest in unit economics, supply chain and customer profitability.
• Comfort with ambiguity and willingness to roll up sleeves on execution.
• Strong stakeholder management and ability to influence without formal authority.
