Head of Finance

About the role

This senior finance position is based in the heart of Liverpool for a respected not‑for‑profit organisation. Reporting to the Chief Finance Officer, you will lead the finance function, delivering high‑quality reporting and commercial insight to support strategic decisions.

Key responsibilities

• Lead, develop and support an established finance team.
• Produce accurate and timely monthly management accounts.
• Drive the annual budgeting and forecasting process.
• Partner with departmental managers to provide commercial financial support and challenge.
• Deliver insightful financial analysis to aid strategic decision‑making.
• Ensure robust financial controls, compliance and statutory reporting.
• Oversee payroll and VAT processes.
• Lead continuous improvement across finance systems and processes.
• Contribute as a member of the wider leadership team.

Required profile

• CIMA or ACCA qualification (or actively studying towards it).
• Proven experience producing high‑quality management accounts in a fast‑paced environment.
• Strong business‑partnering skills with the ability to influence non‑finance stakeholders.
• Previous experience leading and developing a finance team.
• Excellent operational finance knowledge and a continuous‑improvement mindset.
• Collaborative, approachable and proactive style.

Required skills

• Advanced Excel proficiency.
• Experience with financial systems and software.
