Head of Finance

About the role

The Head of Finance will lead the day‑to‑day finance function for a well‑established charitable foundation that is entering a major growth phase. Reporting to the Director of Finance & Resources, you will combine operational finance management with strategic partnership to support a multi‑year capital programme.

Key responsibilities

• Oversee financial reporting, payments, payroll, compliance and financial controls.
• Own the annual budgeting, forecasting and re‑forecasting processes, collaborating with budget holders.
• Produce high‑quality monthly management accounts, Board reports and financial analysis for strategic decision‑making.
• Lead the annual audit, statutory reporting and regulatory submissions.
• Manage complex UK charity and international reporting, including overseas tax obligations.
• Develop robust cash‑flow forecasts and long‑term financial plans to sustain major capital investment.
• Drive continuous improvement of finance systems, processes and controls.
• Provide leadership and development for a Finance Officer and foster a high‑performing team.

Required profile

• Significant experience in finance leadership within the charity or non‑profit sector.
• Proven ability to balance hands‑on operational duties with strategic business partnering.
• Strong analytical mindset and excellent communication skills.
• Experience managing audits, statutory reporting and complex regulatory requirements.
