Head of Finance

About the role

Join an established professional services firm as Head of Finance. Reporting to the Managing Partner, you will steer the finance function, ensure robust financial governance and support strategic decision‑making.

Key responsibilities

• Lead and develop the finance team, maintaining the highest standards of control, compliance and reporting.
• Manage the full financial reporting cycle – monthly, quarterly and annual accounts, and external audits.
• Produce detailed financial analysis, forecasts, budgets, cash‑flow projections and performance reports for strategic planning.
• Oversee banking, cash management, supplier payments, payroll submissions and other transactional finance activities.
• Ensure compliance with accounting standards, tax legislation, regulatory requirements and industry‑specific rules.
• Provide financial insights to drive profitability, performance management and business decisions.
• Maintain and optimise financial systems, controls, processes and reporting frameworks.
• Lead audit activities and uphold effective governance, risk management and internal controls.
• Drive continuous improvement through technology and process optimisation.

Required profile

• ACA, ACCA, CIMA or equivalent professional accounting qualification.
• Proven experience leading a finance function within a professional services environment, ideally legal services.
• Strong expertise in financial reporting, budgeting, forecasting, taxation, audit and financial controls.
• Experience presenting financial results at Board, Partner or Executive level.
• Excellent commercial acumen and ability to translate complex data into actionable insights.
• People leadership experience with a track record of developing finance teams.
• Advanced knowledge of finance systems and process improvement.
