Head of Health, Safety, Security and Safeguarding

About the role

The Head of Health, Safety, Security and Safeguarding will lead Christian Aid’s Global Safe strategy, ensuring a safe, secure and supportive environment for staff, partners and beneficiaries worldwide. Reporting to the Director of Organisational Effectiveness, this senior position shapes policy, culture and operational response across the organisation.

Key responsibilities

• Monitor and assess security risks in operational locations and advise on crisis response and emergency planning.
• Design and deliver training on security awareness, travel safety and incident response for staff and partners.
• Oversee incident reporting mechanisms and ensure timely, effective action on security threats.
• Lead the development and implementation of safeguarding policies, procedures and reporting systems.
• Conduct investigations into safeguarding concerns, maintaining confidentiality and a victim‑centred approach.
• Promote a culture of continuous learning and accountability across all programmes and partnerships.

Required profile

• Extensive senior‑level experience in health, safety, security and safeguarding, preferably within an international or humanitarian context.
• Proven ability to influence and embed organisational culture change.
• Strong leadership, strategic thinking and stakeholder engagement skills.
• Demonstrated experience in risk assessment, crisis management and policy development.
