Head of Industrial Relations

About the role
The Head of Industrial Relations will lead a highly influential function that shapes national industrial relations activity for school and college leaders. Based at home with occasional travel, you will protect and strengthen the voice of education leaders on pay, conditions and working environment.
Key responsibilities
- Lead and develop the Industrial Relations team to deliver a consistent, high‑quality service nationwide.
- Oversee collective bargaining negotiations and represent members on joint negotiating committees.
- Resolve disputes and secure optimal terms, conditions and benefits for members.
- Provide strategic advice across the organisation and ensure compliance with legislation and trade‑union requirements.
- Support the development of local representatives and contribute to the broader industrial relations strategy.
Required profile
- Proven senior‑level experience in industrial relations, trade‑union or HR roles.
- Successful track record of leading complex negotiations and collective bargaining.
- Strong leadership, strategic thinking and influential communication skills.
- Ability to build relationships with employers, unions, members and external stakeholders.
- Commitment to trade‑union principles and credibility with school and college leaders.
