Head of Maintenance - Care Home

About the role

As Head of Maintenance at a Barchester care home you will ensure a clean, safe and well‑maintained environment for residents and staff. The role combines hands‑on maintenance work with team leadership and budget planning, supporting the General Manager in delivering first‑class care.

Key responsibilities

• Maintain the building fabric, plant, and grounds, responding to routine repairs such as fixing leaks or planting bulbs.
• Lead, motivate and develop a small maintenance team, organising rotas and allocating tasks.
• Assist the General Manager with annual maintenance budgeting and cost control.
• Liaise with external contractors for specialist works beyond the team’s capability.
• Ensure all maintenance activities are carried out with sensitivity to residents’ needs and safety standards.

Required profile

• Strong commitment to resident wellbeing and a safety‑first mindset.
• Hands‑on experience in property maintenance with at least one trade qualification.
• Reliable, flexible working hours and the ability to work independently.
• Full UK driving licence.
• Basic IT literacy and GCSEs (or equivalent) in Maths and English.
