Head of Market Data

About the role

This senior position leads the market data function of a fast‑growing proprietary trading firm. Reporting to senior leadership, you will shape the data strategy, manage vendor relationships and ensure the business has the high‑quality data needed for trading, research and growth.

Key responsibilities

• Develop and execute the firm’s market data strategy, aligning data capabilities with business objectives.
• Lead commercial negotiations with exchanges, vendors and data providers, handling licensing agreements and renewals.
• Own the market data budget, identifying cost‑optimisation opportunities while maintaining service quality.
• Ensure compliance with exchange licensing obligations, contractual commitments and regulatory requirements.
• Drive improvements in governance, reporting, inventory management and operational processes.
• Partner with technology teams to automate workflows and enhance data management capabilities.
• Identify, assess and procure traditional and alternative data sources to support trading, research and quantitative strategies.
• Act as the firm’s subject‑matter expert on all market data matters, advising senior stakeholders.

Required profile

• Proven experience leading market data functions within a trading or financial services environment.
• Strong commercial negotiation and vendor‑management skills.
• Experience managing budgets and driving cost‑optimisation.
• Deep understanding of licensing, compliance and regulatory frameworks for market data.
• Ability to work closely with senior leaders across Trading, Technology, Legal, Compliance and Finance.
