Head of Payments (Senior Leadership)

About the role

We are partnering with a fast‑growing fintech in London’s West End to find a Head of Payments. This senior leader will own the end‑to‑end payments function, drive strategic development and ensure regulatory compliance while scaling operations during a period of rapid growth.

Key responsibilities

• Lead, mentor and develop a high‑performance Payments team, setting clear objectives, KPIs and succession plans.
• Own the full payments lifecycle across FPS, CHAPS, BACS, SEPA, SWIFT, FX settlements, card funding flows, internal transfers and correspondent banking.
• Ensure timely, accurate processing, liquidity management and settlement funding for all schemes.
• Oversee safeguarding processes, client money movements and reconciliation with Finance.
• Drive automation, efficiency and continuous improvement across the payments operating model.
• Manage investigations, recalls, rejects, returns and payment exceptions.
• Collaborate with Finance, Treasury and external banking partners to meet funding and compliance requirements.

Required profile

• Proven senior leadership experience in payments, treasury or related financial operations.
• Strong track record of building and scaling high‑performing teams.
• Deep understanding of UK and international payment schemes and regulatory frameworks.
• Ability to influence senior stakeholders and drive strategic change.
