Head of Procurement

About the role

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced Head of Procurement to join a public sector organisation during a pivotal transformation journey. The role is a 12‑18 month fixed‑term contract based in Birmingham, with a hybrid working model (2 days in the office). You will provide strategic leadership and stability to the procurement function while driving change and improving commercial outcomes.

Key responsibilities

• Lead, motivate and develop an experienced procurement team.
• Provide visible leadership and resilience throughout organisational change.
• Drive procurement transformation and continuous improvement initiatives.
• Review and enhance contract management practices, embedding best practice.
• Ensure compliance with the Procurement Act 2023 and related governance requirements.
• Build strong relationships with senior stakeholders and secure buy‑in for change programmes.
• Oversee a diverse portfolio of procurement activity and strategic sourcing projects.
• Strengthen supplier performance, contract governance and commercial outcomes.
• Champion procurement best practice and increase the strategic value delivered by the function.

Required profile

• Proven experience as a Head of Procurement, Senior Procurement Manager or senior public‑sector procurement leader.
• Strong leadership skills with a track record of developing and managing procurement teams.
• Experience of leading procurement transformation, change and service‑improvement programmes.
• Excellent knowledge of the Procurement Act 2023 and public‑sector procurement regulations.
• Significant experience in contract management, governance and supplier relationship management.
• Strong stakeholder engagement and influencing skills at senior levels.
• Commercial, strategic and operational procurement expertise.
