Head of Science – Independent School (Leatherhead)

About the role

We are seeking an ambitious and dynamic Head of Science to lead a well‑established department within a leading independent school. The role will shape the strategic direction of Science across Key Stages 3 to 5, working alongside a collaborative senior team in exceptional facilities.

Key responsibilities

• Provide strategic leadership for the Science department, setting vision and goals.
• Drive academic excellence and foster intellectual curiosity among pupils.
• Oversee curriculum development and ensure alignment with national standards.
• Use data and educational research to inform planning and improve outcomes.
• Lead, motivate and support science teachers, promoting professional development.
• Maintain and develop state‑of‑the‑art laboratories and resources.

Required profile

• Experienced science teacher with a proven record of delivering excellent outcomes.
• Inspirational leader capable of raising standards and driving innovation.
• Outstanding role model committed to holistic education and pastoral care.
• Strategic thinker comfortable using data to guide decisions.
• Qualified teacher (QTS or equivalent) with middle‑leadership experience highly desirable.
