Head of Science (Maternity Cover)

About the role

Prospero Teaching is seeking a dedicated Head of Science to cover a maternity leave at a secondary school in Ealing, West London, starting September 2026. This is a full‑time, one‑year fixed‑term position leading the science department.

Key responsibilities

• Lead and manage the science department, overseeing curriculum delivery for KS3, KS4 and KS5.
• Teach science classes across key stages and support staff in lesson planning.
• Maintain high standards of classroom and behaviour management.
• Coordinate departmental resources and ensure compliance with school policies.
• Act as a point of contact for senior leadership on science‑related matters.

Required profile

• Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) or equivalent – essential.
• Proven experience teaching science at secondary level (KS3‑KS5).
• Previous leadership or head‑of‑department experience is desirable.
• Experience working within a secondary school environment.
• Strong classroom and behaviour management skills.
• Reliable, professional and committed to the role.

• Competitive salary range £45,000 – £72,000 per year (MPS/UPS Inner London + TLR, dependent on experience).
• Full‑time hours, typically 8:30 am to 4:00 pm.
