Head of Service – Front Door Team

About the role

The Head of Service – Front Door Team will lead the delivery of high‑quality content across Southwark Council’s digital services. Reporting to the Web and Digital Lead, you will provide strategic oversight of content standards, governance and quality, ensuring residents receive clear, accessible information.

Key responsibilities

• Oversee day‑to‑day work of Content Design Officers, maintaining quality and consistency.
• Define and maintain content standards, style guides and reusable patterns.
• Develop and implement content strategies that align with organisational objectives.
• Collaborate with service teams, designers and product managers to optimise content based on user research and analytics.
• Lead regular content reviews and updates, driving continuous improvement.
• Champion user‑centred design and support the adoption of best practice across the council.
• Mentor and develop the Content Design team, fostering a collaborative culture.

Required profile

• Experienced content professional with a blend of strategic thinking and hands‑on delivery.
• Proven ability to lead multidisciplinary teams and manage content governance.
• Strong understanding of accessibility, inclusivity and evidence‑based content.
