Head of Specialty Underwriting

About the role

The Head of Specialty will lead the underwriting of niche verticals such as Motorsport, Equestrian, Leisure and High Net Worth Personal Lines for a well‑established Lloyds Coverholder MGA. This role comes at a pivotal moment following a recent acquisition, with fresh investment and a strong appetite for growth across the business.

Key responsibilities

• Develop and execute the underwriting strategy for the specialty divisions, taking full ownership of profitability and long‑term growth.
• Define and manage the underwriting risk appetite, creating clear frameworks for the team to make profitable decisions.
• Lead, coach and develop a high‑performing underwriting team, acting as a hands‑on SME and single source of truth.
• Design and launch innovative insurance products tailored to the unique needs of each vertical.
• Ensure compliance with Lloyds and regulatory requirements while driving operational efficiency.

Required profile

• Extensive experience underwriting in Motorsport, Equestrian, Leisure or High Net Worth Personal Lines.
• Deep understanding of the nuances and risk factors within these specialty markets.
• Proven track record of leading and developing underwriting teams.
• Hands‑on leadership style with the ability to set vision and execute strategy.
