Head of Year

About the role

The Academy is seeking a Head of Year to lead one of its year groups, starting September 2026. This senior pastoral position ensures that around 150 students receive the support they need to succeed academically and personally.

Key responsibilities

• Lead and manage a year team of 5 form tutors and co‑tutors.
• Monitor and improve pupil attendance, punctuality and overall performance.
• Drive progress, achievement and behaviour improvements across key performance indicators.
• Maintain and update the year group's Self‑Evaluation Form (SEF) for continuous improvement.
• Safeguard student wellbeing and adhere to all safeguarding protocols.
• Communicate effectively with parents, students and external agencies.
• Oversee the pastoral curriculum, including year assemblies and daily reflections.

Required profile

• Proven leadership experience in an educational setting, ideally as a Head of Year or similar.
• Strong understanding of pastoral needs and strategies to address them.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills for building rapport with students, staff and parents.
• Commitment to the Academy’s values, behaviour, uniform and anti‑bullying policies.
• Ability to liaise with external agencies and manage complex student cases.
• Qualified teacher with a reduced timetable to accommodate Head of Year duties.
