Headteacher – Specialist Education School

About the role

We are looking for an inspiring and experienced Headteacher to lead a specialist education school in Gloucestershire. The school supports children and young people with SEND, including autism spectrum conditions, moderate learning difficulties and related needs. This is a permanent, full‑time position starting September 2026.

Key responsibilities

• Provide visionary leadership and set the strategic direction of the school.
• Drive school improvement, raising standards of teaching, learning and pupil outcomes.
• Ensure a safe, nurturing and therapeutic learning environment compliant with safeguarding and SEND regulations.
• Develop and support staff through coaching, professional development and performance management.
• Build strong relationships with families, external agencies and the wider community.
• Oversee curriculum design tailored to individual pupil needs.

Required profile

• Qualified Teacher Status (QTS).
• Proven senior leadership experience as a Headteacher or Deputy Headteacher.
• Extensive experience working with pupils who have SEND and/or SEMH needs.
• Track record of school improvement and staff development.
• Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement skills.
• Commitment to safeguarding, inclusion and pupil wellbeing.
