Health and Safety Officer – Full‑Time (Permanent)

About the role

Halton Housing is seeking an experienced Health and Safety Officer to join its vibrant team in Widnes. You will be responsible for ensuring compliance with health and safety legislation across the organisation and supporting a safe working environment for staff and contractors.

Key responsibilities

• Maintain and improve the Health & Safety Management System.
• Lead construction health and safety activities, including site inspections, audits and reporting.
• Support managers with risk assessments, risk management and occupational health matters.
• Investigate accidents and incidents, identify root causes and implement preventative actions.
• Provide expert guidance, coaching and technical support to managers and employees.
• Develop and deliver health and safety training and induction programmes.
• Support employee consultation and the Health & Safety Committee.
• Conduct workplace monitoring such as noise, dust and vibration assessments when required.

Required profile

• Proven experience in a similar health and safety role, including auditing and training delivery.
• NEBOSH General or Construction Certificate (or equivalent) with a commitment to achieve a NEBOSH Diploma within three years.
• Strong knowledge of health and safety legislation and best practice.
• Excellent problem‑solving, influencing, communication and stakeholder management abilities.
• Ability to analyse data, identify trends and produce reports for senior management.
• Strong organisational skills with the capacity to manage competing priorities.
