Health & Safety Manager

About the role

Reed is seeking an experienced Health & Safety Manager to lead the safety function across multiple sites in the South West. You will own the development, implementation and continuous improvement of the Health & Safety Management System, ensuring compliance with UK legislation and fostering a proactive safety culture.

Key responsibilities

• Develop, implement and maintain the Health & Safety Management System and related policies.
• Ensure compliance with UK health and safety legislation, ISO 45001 and ISO 14001 standards.
• Conduct audits, inspections, risk assessments and workplace assessments.
• Lead investigations of accidents, incidents, near‑misses and RIDDOR reports.
• Provide training, inductions, toolbox talks and safety awareness initiatives.
• Manage fire safety, emergency planning and occupational health programmes.
• Oversee contractor compliance and statutory inspection programmes.
• Produce KPI reports, audit findings and compliance updates for senior leadership.

Required profile

• NEBOSH National General Certificate (or equivalent) and proven experience in a health & safety management role.
• Strong knowledge of UK health & safety legislation and best practice.
• Excellent stakeholder management and communication skills.
• Full UK driving licence with willingness to travel between Avonmouth, Highbridge and Exeter.
• Desirable: NEBOSH Diploma, IOSH membership, internal auditor qualification, First Aid at Work certification, experience in automotive or logistics sectors.
