Health & Safety Officer (Facilities & Environmental)

About the role

We are seeking a proactive Health & Safety Officer to support Bournemouth, Christchurch and Pool Civic Centre services. You will help the Council meet its health and safety obligations by providing practical advice, conducting inspections, and promoting a strong safety culture.

Key responsibilities

• Provide health and safety advice to Council services and maintained schools.
• Respond to enquiries, investigate concerns and complaints.
• Carry out workplace inspections, audits and risk assessments.
• Investigate accidents, identify root causes and recommend improvements.
• Deliver training and awareness sessions on health and safety.
• Support managers in implementing safe systems of work.
• Review and update health and safety policies to reflect current legislation.
• Maintain accurate records and reports for compliance.

Required profile

• Level 4 qualification (or equivalent) in Health and Safety.
• NEBOSH General Certificate or Diploma (required).
• Good knowledge of UK health and safety legislation.
• Experience conducting inspections, risk assessments and audits.
• Experience supporting health and safety management within an organisation.
• Strong communication and organisational abilities.
• Solution‑focused approach with attention to detail.
