Healthcare Assistant – 37.5 hrs/week, £24,947 per year

About the role

We are seeking a dedicated Healthcare Assistant to join the team at Thornbury Hospital, part of Circle Health Group in Sheffield. This full‑time position offers 37.5 hours per week with a flexible shift pattern.

Key responsibilities

• Assist patients with personal hygiene, dressing, toileting, oral care and mobility, respecting their preferences and dignity.
• Support patients with eating, drinking and nutritional needs, documenting intake where required.
• Provide comfort and emotional support to patients and relatives, fostering a caring environment.
• Carry out routine observations (blood pressure, pulse, respiratory rate, temperature, oxygen saturation, blood glucose) after appropriate training.
• Assist with basic clinical procedures such as wound‑care setup, catheter care, pressure‑area prevention and use of mobility aids.
• Prepare and maintain clinical areas, including trolleys, beds and equipment, ensuring readiness for patient use.
• Collaborate with nurses, doctors, therapists and administrative teams to deliver safe and efficient patient care.

Required profile

• Previous experience in a care or health‑support role (hospital, care home, community or domiciliary).
• Good communication and interpersonal skills with a caring, compassionate attitude.
• Ability to follow instructions, escalate concerns appropriately and work as part of a multidisciplinary team.
• Basic literacy, numeracy and IT skills.
• Physically capable of moving and handling patients safely.
• NVQ Level 2 or 3 in Health and Social Care (or equivalent) desirable.
• Knowledge of safeguarding, infection control and confidentiality procedures.
