Healthcare Planning & Design Architect

About the role

We are seeking an experienced Healthcare Planning & Design Architect to lead the creation of high‑performing healthcare environments across the UK. In this role you will act as a trusted advisor to NHS trusts and private providers, translating strategic visions into practical, patient‑centred design solutions.

Key responsibilities

• Lead feasibility studies, strategic assessments and option appraisals for new and existing healthcare sites.
• Collaborate directly with clinicians, estates teams and stakeholders to define service requirements and operational flows.
• Produce concept designs, block plans, stack diagrams and zoning strategies that balance clinical effectiveness, patient experience and commercial viability.
• Coordinate multidisciplinary design teams, including architects, engineers, cost consultants and specialist advisors.
• Review and challenge design proposals to ensure alignment with NHS guidance, healthcare planning principles and project objectives.
• Maintain continuity between strategic vision and delivered outcomes throughout the project lifecycle.

Required profile

• Proven experience in healthcare planning, feasibility studies and strategic design.
• Demonstrated ability to lead and coordinate multidisciplinary design teams.
• Strong understanding of NHS guidance, healthcare planning principles and best‑practice design standards.
• Experience translating clinical and operational requirements into practical architectural solutions.
