Heavy Vehicle Service & Maintenance Apprentice

About the role
This apprenticeship offers hands‑on experience as a Heavy Vehicle Service and Maintenance Technician. You will work alongside qualified mechanics to maintain a diverse fleet of council and partner vehicles, ensuring safety and reliability.
Key responsibilities
- Assist with mechanical and electrical inspections, servicing and repairs on a range of vehicles including gritters, tankers, buses, vans and plant machinery.
- Prepare vehicles for MOT testing, identify defects and carry out necessary repairs.
- Use compressed‑air power tools, work in confined spaces such as inspection pits, and operate ladders and gantries.
- Support the workshop team in both indoor and outdoor environments, often under physically demanding conditions.
Required profile
- Minimum GCSE A*-C/4-9 (or equivalent) in English and maths, or willingness to achieve Functional Skills Level 2.
- Strong interest in vehicles and a desire to build a career in automotive maintenance.
- Eligibility to work in the UK, aged 16 or over, and not currently enrolled in another full‑time education programme.
