HGV Driver – Refuse Vehicle

About the role

Join Northumberland County Council as an HGV Driver responsible for refuse and recycling collection across Blyth and surrounding areas. You will operate modern waste collection trucks equipped with in‑cab tablets, ensuring safe and efficient service for the community.

Key responsibilities

• Drive refuse and recycling collection vehicles, including new food‑waste trucks with in‑cab tablets.
• Maintain vehicle condition and equipment, ensuring safety and cleanliness.
• Load and unload bins, operate hydraulic lifts and other specialist tools.
• Lead a small team of refuse collection staff, delivering reliable service to homes and businesses.
• Provide high‑quality customer service and respond to enquiries while on route.

Required profile

• Valid Class 2 licence with experience driving large HGVs and no historical convictions.
• Physically fit to handle manual loading, manoeuvring bins and operating hydraulic equipment.
• Ability to work independently, follow health‑and‑safety procedures and maintain awareness on urban and rural routes.
